Autodesk do, or at least did, have a plugin for LW 8.2+ (which reportedly worked in 9) on their site - you had to sign up for the free bronze-level access to get at it (make sure you take the 8.2, not the 8, version if it's still there). I didn't really test it hard enough to say how effective it was - it seemed to do bad things to uv seams, for one thing (pun accidental but I'm too lazy to fix it :D ).

apparently, no need to register for bronze anymore...
here is a direct link to the FBX page at the autodesk site:

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=6839916

the last developement of FBX for LW is at the 2005.08 Plug-ins link.

cheers

The FBXLW80.p plugin works just fine in LW9, I've been using it consistently.

However, don't go holding your breath for Autodesk to bring out a Lightwave version of the new FBX plugins. ;)

good to hear that, did you try the latest FBX converter, too?

Reads FBX but can NOT write FBX properly.

When talking about FBX LW and MB one should always mention what version of each item are considered.

For the time being it seems that LW 9.3 and MB 7.5 cannot exchanger FBX files properly as the textures are missing, in spite of the use of Autodesk's FBX to FBX last version Converter.exe.

Maybe this comes from the fact that the fbxlw.p (even the Unity one) does not export the embeded textures although the box of this option is checked.
FBX is now more or less open source (see FBX site) but no developper has set up an appropriate plugin.

Pity as I think many users would be ready to pay some bucks for it.

I walked up to a Autodesk... no, it might've been Avid... no, wait... it was after Kaydera...

Anyway, I walk up to this dude and ask, as a guy who owns the program, that they provide a plugin that actually works for Lightwave and MB...

The guy laughed in my face.

Then he said that if I had over $50k, they would develop a plug in for me, personally...

Stupid buying software company guys...

Hey,
Hijack here...

Looking for someone to convert some 6.x mb files down to 5.5 for me. Anyone willing to do some BIG files for me? Mocap from SIGGRAPH many years ago of the wife and I dancing.
THanks for any considerations in this regard.

Well He can have his $50k if we are 500 guys ready to pay $100 each.
Has he any sense of business ?
But with the new FBX SDK, it will probably be easier as someone told me they built up a plugin for a customer in 2 days.
