Our company is still trying to figure out what the best file format to use is. At first we were going to use Lightwave as the format, but our programer found that the file format was a terriable to work with. Such as how do you have a file as an LWO with animation in it? We have been using the dotXSI format recently beacuse it is a very easy format to follow.

Anyways, my real question is if we use LW, how do we get animation data into the LWO ?

animation information is saved in the scene file. the .lws.

I'm currently working on some software that uses the lightwave object and scene files as its primary file format. It's not that difficult, especially if you're familiar with the Interchange File Format standard.
