Anyone here with experience having both PPC (G4 and G5) Macs networked with Macintel, specifically with Screamernet?

are there any issues, and how about when using Macintel mac with software written for PPC?

OK..nobody here using PPC and Intel macs together in a screamernet situation?

I get the idea from other discussions that intel macs are slow right now with 8.5, so maybe it's not even worth futzing with that mix of macs until the next version of LW comes out?

LW is currently not Universal Binary, however, Newtek has released a press release about its soon to be released Beta testing phase.

Apps written for PPC will run in emulation mode on Intel Macs, which makes them slower than running them on PPC based Macs.

As far as OS X goes, it is exactly the same on Intel Macs, so networking should not be an issue.

The only problem I can see is if you render scenes with procedural functions, the PPC and Core 2 Duo CPUs will use different random seeds, so images from both may be a tad different. It is best to stick with the same CPU for all rendering nodes using a render farm.
