yeah!...your missing the photomodeling side of it! regarding shape perception and automatic texturing from the reference photos...and that the morphs from the head database can be used on your model you create.

I watched the facegen video and it's surely powerful, but the Blanz approach (that youtube vid) can match the mesh, the orientation, colors and lighting to the picture. I don't know excactly what's automated, but it seems that you just have to align the head to the pic and the software does the rest (and in an amazing quality).
If not for anything else you could fake celebrity images, i.e. something like 3D photoshop in no time :)

You know I thought it was so cool in the movie The Running Man with Shwarzenegger that they instally computer generated people doing things that had never actually done. I remember seeing it several years later and laughing at that ridiculous technology. Now it doesn't seem that unbelievable.
