View Full Version : How to render object into sprite?

Hi, I had a crazy idea.

For tree branches, to keep poly counts low, what about having
a plane that vibrates along the length of a tree branch, and
that has a volumetric texture applied to that plane? The
volumetric texture would be something like a sprite rendering
of a branch that was modeled and then rendered down.

So that way you could turn your 3d objects into a volumetric
texture and use the motion-blurred polygon to get the
volumetric rendering from a pre-rendered sprite.

Does this sound like something that'd be possible?
Would it be a time-saving way to create trees, instead of
having tons of geometry?

I think I know what you're talking about. It sounds like it might be possible. Just make sure that the frequency of your motion matches the frequency of frame rate so you don't actually see the vibration...

Give it a try and tell us if it works. :)

Well, I can't figure out any way to render slices
of an object into a sprite.

As far as I can see, only hypervoxels
can be rendered out this way.

Anybody have any ideas on this?
