g'day

does anyone know of an easy way to move a bump map or displacement along a path? I suppose it could be done by keyframing the x,y,z channels in the graph editor but this would be extremely clunky. Am I missing a feature here? I've tried the usual books and searched the forum but can't readily find an answer. Any help appreciated.

cheers

Use a reference object, usually done using a null object. :)
It also depends on if you want the bump or displacement map localized or not.

i suppose you have bump map like a depression or some form of a erosion.
first in layout create a null and name it "mover".
click T button on the bump channel in surface editor
so load your bump map and if you come down you'll see "Reference object" button in that select your null "mover".
now you move the null the Bump map moves too
the same goes with the Displacement map too.

localized would mean that the bump or displacement is just near the reference object and falls off. It also depends if you want a bump or displacement to follow a path or trail like a paintbrush leaving a trail of paint.
