Is there a way to blend two surfaces over time in LW9 nodes? I'd like to solve it within a node, e.g. use the "Mixer" with a time based input. I do know that there is still the "Surf Mixer" shader, but I would prefer to use something within a node. Any ideas how I could use a gradient with a time-based input?

I know James Willmott released a timenode plug-in that may or may not help you if you can lay your hands on it.

Gradients are keyframable. So theoretically you could find a way to do it I would think.

Don't know what you are trying to accomplish but it seems in theory you could do it.

Have you seen this?

In otherwords is there some way to drive the mixer or the surface(s) using an animat alpha gradient(s) to fade on in and ther other out etc.

Forgive me but I am new to 9.0, so if this is off the mark, I appologize in advance. Just an idea.

Happy new year!

I'd simply envelope the opacity of the Mixer node, or set an envelope as the value of a Constant node and then plug that in where needed.
