Hi all,

Following the success of the Skypecast chats I've been hosting for the last week, I'm going to take things up a notch. As before, the Skypecast will open its doors at 1100 CET (1000 GMT) sharp and the doors will be open for fifteen minutes. Thereafter, the LightWave entertainment will begin with me talking to Australian LightWaver James Willmott about his LightWave plugins, history, who he is and more. At the end of the interview I will open the floor for questions from the audience to James and for those that can't attend I shall attempt to make a podcast version of the interview to listen to at your leisure. Since this is the first of many planned, it will be a little rough around the edges, so I welcome feedback from listeners or people who'd like to, but can't access the Skypecast. Now, more detailed info about how it's going to work, the pitfalls and more:

The fine print

The Skypecast will be in English;
Skypecasting is only available to PC Skype users at the moment, sorry :(
You need to use a PC with Skype 2.5 it seems at least. The experience is better with Skype 3 beta (http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windows/skype3beta.html). We have had one listener who used Skype 1.4 successfully;
You absolutely must use a headset, otherwise the feedback is terrible;
All of our LightWave oriented Skypecasts will have LWcast in the name;
Upcoming Skypecasts can be found here (https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/home) or on the Live tab in Skype 3 beta (http://www.skype.com/download/skype/windows/skype3beta.html);
Currently I cannot set up a Skypecast in advance, so only look for the Skypecast (https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/home) at 1100 CET or 1000 GMT each day.
I would appreciate it if you put (lw) in your Full Name in your profile so I can see who's interested and who's not
There will be a chat window associated with the Skypecast, please ask for access to it if I haven't given it to you

The Skypecast interview with James Willmott will start at 1100 CET/1000 GMT tomorrow 7th December 2006

I'm going to do it all again tomorrow, and interview Michael (LightWolf) Wolf about his plugins and more... Remember, Skype's website doesn't let me setup Skypecasts in advance right now, so you need to head to the page linked in the first post in this thread at 1000 GMT or 1100 CET to sign up. The public doors will only be open for fifteen minutes, so Johnnies-come-lately will not be able to get in! ;) Be there or be a parallelipiped!

Hi Ben,

Todays cast with Mike was AWESOME! :)

But careful, with such interesting casts if you do more than one everyday, we will not work with Lightwave! ;) LOL

Best regards,
David

Sorry to see you disappear off early Steve, and just before I opened the floor to questions! That was a very cool chat. Thanks Mike, I really liked the idea of rendering a single 2 terabyte image in LW on a 512MB machine! Like I said on the Skypecast, there won't be one Monday since I'm not in the office, but on Tuesday we'll have a new guest, this time Khalid Al Muharraqi...

To David,

No, I think we'd certainly ease the rhythm of the 'casts down a lot, particularly for when we do a podcast of the skypecast since we'd want to make a web page to accompany it, to give the links, etc. we bandied about in the chat. That way we'd also be able to do an afternoon one with an American artist perhaps...

yeah... couln't get the type in window to show up at all..some sort of glitch no doubt..beta's!...

also i'm still not able to see the lw beta forum over here at the newtek forum..can you post a prod in someone's back to enable this?..been waiting 3 days..

BeeVee

I do do an MP3 recording of the Skypecast, but won't publish it publically (the eventual aim is to make a Podcast anyway). If you took part in the Skypecast and didn't get it from the link provided, drop me a line (through Skype or email preferably).

B

BeeVee

For other issues, you can still use Skype 2.5 anyway to access the Skypecasts (we even had one listener using Skype 1.4!), but certainly Skype 3 provides a nice way of doing things... If, during the Skypecast you don't get the chat window for the Skypecast, please let me (or one of the people you know in the audience) know, and I can add you manually.

Yay! The "Start later" Skypecast is back to working. I wanted to inform listeners that tomorrow's starts an hour later, that's 11AM GMT, 12PM CET on December 13 2006.

The link will be: Skypecast interview with James Willmott (https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/skypecast/detailed.html?id_talk=89611&message=new_talk_created)

Come one, come all.

Don't forget it's an hour later Steve! Also, I've got Friday's sorted, with Khalid Al Muharraqi instead of Thursday:

Khalid Al Muharraqi interview Skypecast (https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/skypecast/detailed.html?id_talk=89716)

Thursday's is currently being organisized.

Hi all,

Okay, I have a swell interview lined up for tomorrow, however the Skypecasts page seems to be down so I can't generate it right now. Hopefully it will be back up by the time 10AM GMT rolls around tomorrow otherwise I won't be able to do one, however my chat with Khalid Al Muharraqi is still on the cards for Friday, even if the webpage doesn't work, but that does mean that only users of the Skype 3.0 beta will be able to join in. I'll keep this forum, CGTalk and Spinquad updated on my progress...

Hi all,

The Skypecasts page was back up last night (but is down again this morning! :cry: ), so be prepared for an interview with Mark Hennessy-Barrett today, our very own Bog. I can't give you a link here because the website is down, but Skype 3.0 users should have it in their Live tab come 10AM GMT/1100 CET.

B

BeeVee
12-14-2006, 02:39 AM
Okay, it seems that our 'cast has been delayed somewhat. According to the Live tab of my Skype 3 it won't start for about 53 minutes, in other words at 10:30AM GMT/1130 CET, I'm hoping still open doors policy for fifteen mins, then onto the 'cast as usual. The Skypecast website is still down, so you are going to need to have Skype 3 to join in. Even though it's in beta, it works very well and you can always replace it with the older version as soon as we're done if you prefer.

Hope to speak to you there!

My pleasure Mark! It was good fun... Today's Skypecast will start in about forty minutes. You don't need to contact me for permission to join in, just look on the Live tab in Skype 3 (the Skypecast webpage is still down so I can't give a URL, so if you're still using Skype 2.5, now's the time to upgrade to 3 - it's out of beta).

Hmm, it seems that today's Skypecast has been cancelled... :( That means my interview with Khalid can't take place until next Friday. Hopefully they'll get it sorted over the weekend. As it is, I won't be able to do one until Wednesday next week... speak to you then.

Didn't miss anything Mark, Skype was being 'difficult', so the skypecast never went ahead as such.

BeeVee
12-15-2006, 06:27 AM
And I can't do one Monday or Tuesday, so Wednesday's the next one. The one for Thursday, but Friday we're off for the hols... Khalid's going to be in the new year.

Hi all,

I'm still having problems with the Skypecast page and have no time today to resolve the issue. Tomorrow's even worse since I have to absent myself for most of the day, leaving no time for a Yuletide Skypecast that I had planned... ;(

So I shall take this opportunity to wish all my faithful listeners a happy Christmas and new year and I'll speak to you again in January 2007 when we can all compare pressies...
