Here is the effect that I am after (just the ripple movement)...

http://us.mms.com/us/fungames/tv/play_mpg.jsp?movieid=River_of_Chocolate_low

How could that movement be duplicated in Lightwave with objects, without having to clone them one-at-a-time in Layout?

Thanks,
Aaron

This thread shows one way to do it http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29664&highlight=metalink

I could swear that Proton did a tutorial covering this exact effect. He even mentioned the M&Ms commercial in the tutorial. I think it had something to do with displacement. As I recall, it was fairly quick and easy to do. I've done some searches but can't seem to find it. Maybe Proton will pop in and point us to the link.

Thanks, I tried some displacement/texture maps in Layout, but the problem is they distort the objects themselves. It seems like there should be a simple way to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Check this scene out.
Press calculate as this uses clothfx to freeze the ripple so hardlink can see it.

In the HD instance thread, there is a link to movie about cells.

There is a part in it where a sea of cells has some kind of wave action. It is brief, but perhaps similiar. It is a LW project.

Thanks for the Smarties scene. So far it looks like a great starting point for the effect from the M&M's, or whatever I can come up with after picking the scene apart.

Smarties scene ROCKS! Most impressive... I combine your technique with some info from Larry Shultz's EndoMoprh training (http://www.kurvstudios.com/lightwave/) to make whole objects float. Never new how to use the soft and hard FX. Thanks again for providing such excellent help. I am serious about the lunch...
