Naaahhh... too simple... then again... hummm... *evil thoughts*

Hey, why do so many 3DS users on there find it necessary to say "Was easily done..." about their stuff? If there's a 3D package where it's hard to make a golf-ball by beveling a geodesic sphere, I want it dragged into the street and shot at once.

Well, I thought I might have a little fun. I have been meaning to try to make a planet for some time now, and this gave me the chance. It's far from one might consider good, so Im not sure i will actually submit it. Fun project though, learned a bit about gradients and negative-intensity lights in the process too.

Looks great so far, my only suggestion would be:

For the droplets spheres that are overlapping the ground plane, I would model them to look like they're touching the ground instead of going through them. Try to flatten and spread out the bottom. :)

This may be spectacularly dumb of me, but I really don't understand how the scene is set up. Is there something odd going on? I seem to get the backdrop in 2 chunks, but from the perspective view there is only one, then there's that phantom bluish squashed beach ball that I can't make out at all...

It does seem insanely complicated for what it is - has anyone produced a stripped down one they would be prepared to share?

Yeah, the scene's a bit hinky. It's defaulting to Wireframe view (for me) with a backdrop image as well of a rendered ball. It's there To Preserve Consistency, but I did some clean-up first.

Also, the scene heirarchy annoyed me, so I killed all the parenting in the scene. Suddenly, everything was puppies and kittens and unicorn giggles.

I've always wondered how you create those images that makes it seemt hat the lights are dancing.

I have one suggestion though. For those that seem to emit lots of different spectrums of light, I think it would make it a little beeter if you got rid of the shadow on the grid plane and replace it with a glowing aura of some sort. Just a thought.

The original LightWave scene from CGSphere.com has items parented and targetted together which aren't needed.

Attached is the same scene with all these removed, it looks exactly the same, but it easier to work with, so you can use this one if you like.

Here's a render of what it looks like by default.

Cheers

Hello fellow Lightwavers, and Happy Holidays!
Mac here (long time lurker, first time poster).

Well, here's my go at the CGSphere thingy:

http://www.cgsphere.com/gallery/details/?submission_id=1822

There are so many incredible submissions already. So, if nothing else, it was one booger of an exercise in Modelling...

Time Machine!!! Very good the model, but not the light.

Thanks lab2!!! You and another are right on the money with the comment. I'm rerendering it now with a brand new lighting scheme, and I'm using G2 to assist (but I won't see results for 12hours while it renders and I bite my nails to the nubs...)

D'OH!

...make that 9hrs 57min 29sec

(in Mac's "magical" world, he would get a cup of coffee, return to the machine and find it rendered. I'll try that now!)

This is a WIP, the grass right now is temporal I'm planning on improving it.

It looks pretty cool so far, Titus. The only comment I could make on the grass is to maybe use a hit and miss approach to placement of slightly longer grass blades. GREAT JOB!!!

mmmm.... shame on me! I rerendered the scene... with ray traced transparence, reflection and refractions ON, this time! (I wondered: How fast is LW this night!)

I must admit . At first I did not see the ball. At first, all that I could see was the background without the ball. But now I see the ball. The ball that is not there. But it is there. I like that one.

maybe I'll explain it. A lot of time ago I thought about a tutorial on Aurora attractor plugin for Lightwave. !

Maybe a little hint?
Love your "Math on a ball" and "Aurora-Lorenz84" entries.

Thanks for appreciation.
I made an introductory tut. It should be of your interest. You can get it here (http://digilander.libero.it/dartrender/tut/aurorattractors.pdf)
few Kbs PDF.

Last image is a little more usual: the sphere, subpatched, was displaced by an apophysis image. Other polys (cristals) are modelled.
