found another possible solution for people who don't want to spend a lot of money to get up and running with a game engine. in fact, this one is open source. http://www.dhost.info/realityfactory . it's made by the same people that made beyond virtual as far as i can tell. a little harder than bv, but it's also free with full liscense to make commercial games. download is a little clunky. had to redownload a few times. but overal, wasn't bad. and quality seems to be somewhat in the ball park of bv. http://www.freewebs.com/andycr/realityfactory1.htm gives you your first primer and walks you thru to making a very simple level that you actually get to play within under 10 minutes. that won brownie points in my book. did see that is does support .lwo, but i think you have to triangulate first. anyway, haven't played a lot with it yet. just wanted to pass the info on. will post later when i've had more time to play with it. i don't think id or valve are squirming in their undies over this, but it gives the average person a tool to start with

Looks interesting. I've got RF set up on my machine but haven't had a chance to play with it yet. The Dan Valeo book seems to be a great way to get started. Will post my thoughts once I am on my way. Thanks for the link.
