View Full Version : point cloud dataset in LW9?

I'm trying to convert a 3d point cloud into a mesh with Lightwave 9. If someone would kindly point me in the right direction.

Thank you

I have done this a while ago, with a free app from what I can remember, that converted the points to a triangulated mesh which then was easy to get into LW. But it's honestly been so long ago (5-7 years ago) that I neither remember the app nor approach. Apologies for the vagueness but you'd best start looking outiside LW for this, to begin with anyway.

or you can pick points, create splines and patch it :)

Did you get your Point Cloud data from a LiDAR scan? What format are the points in, an x,y,z, text file, or something else?

When I get LiDAR data (either airborne or terrestrial) I usually bring the text file into Microstation / Inroads and use inroads to triangulate the surface and save out an AutoCAD DXF file, and then bring that mesh into LightWave. These are typically for highly detailed terrain models though, I don't know what the subject of your point cloud is.

Pixel Farm's PF Track creates null objects for every tracked feature in a shot. Is there a way to convert all of these null objects into points so I can make a mesh out of them in Modeler?

You want CMans Nulls2Points plugin.

Thanks! I'll give that a shot.
