Hello, sorry for the offtopic.
I would like to have a feature to my home page that allowed me to update the content (text and pictures) from any computer without using a ftpclient or a homepage making application. I'm thinking that the content maker should be like the postmaker of this forum. There should also be some kind of navigation between different content pages and the content maker should be password protected. Is there a PHP, MySQL script that does this? Hope it makes sence?

What are you thinking of? There are tons of scripts that can do almost anything with PHP. I'm really not sure what you mean. Shall it spit out new pages or just replace text/ images in existing ones? That password setting is handled by the server I think, not by PHP itself. As far as I know you need to install some security extensions to Apache to do this. Some manual intervention here might be necessary.

This looks go and easily expandable http://www.raelity.org/apps/blosxom/

Use _htaccess for the password protection, very easy to setup. Some info here http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess.shtml

It should be relatively easy to write something like this providing you have a fairly good knowledge of PHP and Apache configuration.

If you don't then I'm available for hire :D

Actually I need to find someone soon to do the backend for a database driven site. Someone who specialize in mySQL and PHP. It's just straight programming. I'll be doing all the design side of things, laying out the html, setting up the server that sort of thing. What are your rates like?

My rate generally depends on the project. For web based work I usually give a quote for completion of the entire project, but if it's just programming I'd probably ask for an hourly rate. I'm sure we could come to some arrangement regarding this.

How complex is the project? Is there extensive database work to be done, or is the database involvement minimal?

Actually, maybe we should continue this discussion via email to avoid annoying the rest of the forum users! Since I don't want to publish my email for all to see here, could you use the contact form on my website (link here (http://www.andynicholas.com/contact.php)), and we can take it from there. Thanks!

My homepage is nonprofit so I cant afford anything expensive. I want the script to output pages with plain text, links and pictures just like it is displayed in a post of most forums, Nothing fancy. I would also like to be able to edit and delete pages that has been created with this script.

I reckon I could probably knock you up something pretty simple that would do what you wanted. Have a look at the guestbook here (http://www.andynicholas.com/thezone/index.php?area=guestbook) that's implemented on my site to give you some idea on what you could have (yours would obviously be password protected). I could extend it so that you would be able to edit/delete previous posts, and include graphics etc.

As I said to Riki, contact me via my website here (http://www.andynicholas.com/contact.php) (rather than clutter up this forum), with some idea of your budget and I'll let you know what I can do for you (discounted rate will apply since this is good advertising! - sorry Lightwavers who're getting annoyed with this thread!).

Best wishes

Hey Karl

Great portal for web development - You will most likely find your answer here, or at least from a link in this site... In fact have a peek at a free sample chapter of 'Instant PHP' here:

The online info talks about Database admin, logging in, etc - Sorta the things you'd need for your online admin tool.

Heres a short beginners article on integrating mSQL and PHP together:

And another...

And here's a cool site with lots of cool stuff - Check out Code Snippets section for all kinds of juicy stuff... :)
