The LightWave v9.2 Open Beta program will be open to all registered owners of LightWave v9.0 educational or commercial licenses. When the program begins, all qualified applicants will need to log-in to their NewTek product registration account at http://register.newtek.com. If you are qualified, you will see a LightWave v9.2 Open Beta banner at the top of the page. Click this banner to read and agree to the NDA and provide your NewTek Discussion Forums log-in ID. Once you have done this, please download the software appropriate for your platform from your My Downloads page.

If you have not already signed up for a NewTek Discussion Forums account (http://www.newtek.com/forums) log-in ID (forums name/alias), please register for one (http://www.newtek.com/forums/register.php) before applying for the LightWave v9.2 Open Beta program. You will need this in order to access the private LightWave Open Beta Forums, which is the only place you may discuss the Open Beta program software until the end of the LightWave v9.2 Open Beta cycle. Access to the private Open Beta forums may take up to two business days after you agree to the NDA and provide your log-in ID.

Everyone interested in participating in the LightWave v9.2 open beta program will need to complete the process outlined above.

If you do not currently qualify for the Open Beta program, but would like to participate, you may still do so by purchasing a full version of LightWave v9 or upgrading an existing license of LightWave 3D to LightWave v9. You can purchase LightWave directly from NewTek online at http://shop.newtek.com or by phone at 1-800-368-5441. You may also purchase from your local authorized NewTek reseller. Another 2 hours at least, then factor in the delay because everyone rushes to d/load it so you get a transfer rate of 0.05KB/s :p

I got that bit, but I was led to believe the 9.2 banner will show up IFyou have registered to take part, this is what I can't find anywhere on the site.

Despite taking part in the previous open beta, I'm reading most of the posts that you need to RE-REGISTER to take part in this one.

The programmers are done, but you'd probably be surprised how many people have to coordinate to get this all done.

after i saw how many swedes were needed to clean a floor with a vacuum-cleaner....im not suprised anymore.

this is not a joke...but it took 4 of them.

one was vacuuming, second was moving the vacuumcleaner, third was lifting carpets and other items out of the way..fourth (leader) was directing all those 3 guys.

When you login at http://register.newtek.com, if you qualify for the LightWave v9.2 Open Beta by being a registered owner of LightWave v9(.0), you will see a LightWave v9.2 Open Beta banner at the top of the page. You will need to click on that banner and agree to the NDA in order to access the forums and the software downloads.

Am I just not asking this question correctly or what?

When I log into the registration page, will I see the 9.2 banner if I haven't re-registered?

If not, HOW / WHERE do I re-register??????

Because as I understand it, the 9.2 banner will only show up if you qualify to take part.

But how can you apply if it only shows up IF you qualify?

Do you see my problem here?

Why are things written so vaguely????

Gregg "T.Rex"

Here is how I understand it. If you qualify then you will see the banner. e.g., if you have 9 then you will see the banner. The banner is your mechanism to re-register for the beta. Re-registering does not make you eligble to see the banner, owning 9 does.

anyway, THE BANNER IS THERE!!!!

Matt
11-06-2006, 01:19 PM
Then what's all this talk about re-registering because the NDA has changed?

Can I just clear this up:

If you have purchased LW9 you qualify to take part in the 9.2 beta, BUT even if you signed the PREVIOUS NDA, you will have to SIGN another because it has changed.

THAT is the only part you have to RE DO, NOT re-register.

Geez!

11-06-2006, 01:22 PM
The way I figure it, much like the previous open beta, if you qualify (in this case, by having LW 9.0) a banner will appear in your register.newtek.com account. Once you click said banner, you will be brought to a page with the NDA. This is the part people are talking about re-registering for. Previous Open Beta testers will have to re-register for the beta because the NDA has changed. New beta testers will simply register for the beta.

All in all it will pretty much be agreeing to the new NDA, and proceeding to your download :P

I have not done this yet, but that is what I expect it to be like.

Has anyone downloaded a game-trailer from one of those huge places? If you don't pay a monthly fee, you are put into a download que. A window pops up with information about the remaining time until the download will start. Guess NT may look into this kind of system, because when I first tried with FireFox I was dead sure that FF couldn't handle it, but IE did the same thing...

the license software just makes a license.key file. If it isn't working just do it the old fashioned way.

Wow I'd never thought I would say "In my day we had to open text edit and type in every single letter and hyphen and save that file all the way in the program folder, and that's just the way we liked it. None of this new fangled licensing software" said in my best Dana Carvy voice.

The register program in my beta doesn't work(lwsn.exe). It flashes on the screen real fast and then disappears. How can I get this sucker out of Discovery edition otherwise? Do they no longer have license key files in the programs folder?

are you kidding?

you must be. but I'll fall for it anyway.

lwsn is screamernet, not the registration app.

1) Unzip your LW beta Folder and put it on your C: drive

2) Copy the Registration program from your LW9.0 programs folder and paste it into your Beta programs folder.

3) Open up the Registration Utility and enter your new Beta key.

should work after that if you have registered your beta.

This is assuming you didn't get an installer like I didn't.

Another way: Register for your new key on the registration site (choosing LW 9.2 Beta in the dropdown box), enter your lock ID, get the key and just go into layout and use the 'Enter license' menu option. Worked for me.

The email says "before running it you should review the instructions below to set the software up to generate new configuration files that do not affect any existing installations of LightWave 3D."

But I don't see anything about configs, would the registration program handle that?

MacGregg
11-06-2006, 03:05 PM
In the email sent me LW9Beta that contains the download link and serial number there is a line that says this:

"before running it you should review the instructions below to set the software up to generate new configuration files that do not affect any existing installations of LightWave 3D."

There are no instructions on how to create NEW configuration files that don't affect existing installations. I don't see how to do this since these files are all in Documents and Settings/{loggin}. The cfg files only seem to use the first digit of the version to identify them so lw9.cfg. Is there some way to move where the config files reside or can I rename them lw9.2.cfg and so on? I would think they could be moved to the LW Programs folder if there was a way to tell LW to look there.

Edit: Well, lots you beat me to the question.... ditto!!

Thanks,
MacGregg

Some early downloaders got an email without the complete set of instructions. New instructions are in the open beta forums and new emails will be going out to everyone shortly.

There is no registration utility in the ZIP files. You need to edit your license.key file manually.

The Open Beta forums are now open. Please try this link while you are logged-in to the forums.

Glad to hear it. I know the registration changes we implemented with the release of v9 were a bit painful at the time, but they laid the way for the improvements we made here and will continue to make in the future. This should also be the last time we will need to do the NDA and forums (except for new users) until v10.

Thanks for the beta guys. I only had a quick go after installing & it all seems to be up & running.

One thing to note however, is that the email explaining the install process for the shortcuts is slightly wrong.

In the instructions, the config path is -c[space]"pathtoconfig"

it doesn't work properly with that space in, so the shortcut parameter should be -c"pathtoconfig".

Also. It's worth noting that if it doesn't work because of this, it will initially use the existing configs.

In the email I got just after I registered for the beta. The email had a list of instructions, and a serial number.

Do you have an email with a serial number for the beta?

That is all I got.

The bit dealing with the config settings is at the end of the section that deals with the creation of a new license key file.

I tried to install LW9.2 in my C:\Program Files\NewTek directory, but no matter how I named/configured the Target file, I could not get it to recognise the path as being valid. Finally gave up and installed it in the C:\[directory] for now. Would have prefered it in the Newtek folder though.

Installing to a path with spaces has always been a bad idea. I was very surprised to see that they had taken this approach with newer versions of LW. I tend to install to the root of the drive instead - something like C:\LightWave_3d_9

........play witjh 9.2 meanwhile.. stop barking

And just how do you see that happening when the freakin' serial/license.key isn't working????? Grrrr.

Just to explain the way I "installed" LW9.2: I extracted the files in the .zip to a new directory. Launched Layout, went to the edit tab in the upper left of the main screen. Entered the key (copy/paste) and hit enter. It said at the bottom of the screen that my serial/license.key has successfully been written and I need to restart to end discovery mode ...... I did. Discovery mode prevails ... again. Good thing I still have v9.0.

I'd MUCH prefer there not to be any dongle at all. We'd (I'd) be rid of all this hassle. I know that'd make the app vulnerable to cracks and the like, but for Pete's sake, it's already being hacked and cracked. And making it unusable to the legit users isn't a working solution.

Sure, the vast majority gets it going with no trouble, but the rest of us are stuck with having to use the previous version (because that's FINALLY working).

That is of course your choice, but if you qualify, and the banner is not showing up, that indicates a problem with your registration account that Customer Service will have to correct for you. You can continue to post that you cannot see the banner, but that won't change until the issue with your registration account is addressed.

Not closer work....but integration

jasonwestmas
01-14-2007, 02:15 PM
Oh, I doubt full integration will happen. If it did, that would be Pixologic's and Luxology's responsibility to take advantage of the lightwave SDK. For example Maxon's Body Paint has some level of integration but that plugin was developed by Maxon not Newtek.
