View Full Version : advanced camera problem (bug?) with UV maps

Hi

I am using the advanced camera in LW9 to create a fisheye render of a dome, however it seems to be giving me strange artifacts on objects using UV maps. I am wondering if this is a bug in LW9?

I have no problem rendering this object with a standard camera. I can even render it out in LW8 using JJ's Special Projection plugin.

LW 8 render (using JJ Special Projection plugin):

LW 9 render (using the advanced camera):

Has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers

Hi Lewis

Thanks for the offer to look at the scene/s.

Lightwave 9 Scene file:

Lightwave 8 Scene file (JJ's Special Projection plugin req):
http://members.optushome.com.au/warik/dome_test_lw8.lws

Lightwave dome object:

I haven't included the image file, but I still get the same results with different images mapped onto the dome.

Cheers

Any of the new cameras have the annoying habit of taking exception to quads that are even only slightly non planar, and even some that LW's numeric panel swears are planner. Only this afternoon I found myself tripling odd quads here and there on a surface of an object to get rid of similar errors, which was a pain as I must have rendered the same thing 8.5 some thirty odd times without a problem before today

Thank you gerry_g that fixed it.

I went back tripled the dome and all was fixed. I should have realised having had a similar problem a few years back (LW7.5) when I was getting weird errors in the reflection of an 8 sided polygon.

Thanks again.

Hmmm...does the new renderer do this different per Frame Gerry? Because that could explain some of the weird crap LW has been throwing at me with rendering (and in the past only Maya did this to me, now LW aswell? what is the world coming to :p )

It's a good idea to make sure Modeler's non-planar threshold is lower than the default 0.5%. I always set it to 0.25, it solved problems for me back in the 7.5 days. Not everything is as forgiving as LW classic renderer, that's one of the things that made it famous -
