View Full Version : Fuselage - Sliding Maps

Starting to animate an aircraft and have come up with a spankin paint job. Problem, it slides off when she (the plane) moves. I've started to read the stuff in the book (UV mpas), but cant seem to get the hang of it. Tips, directions to an online tut, etc would be a great help.

If there's an 1,2,3 for aircraft out there...?

1.does it slide off in the render or just the ogl preview?
2.do you have world coordinates checked on any of your textures?

How is it being animated? Key frames or dynamics...
here is some uv tuts.

Take the aircraft into Layout before you move it, don't move it around in Modeler.

havent moved around in mod.

and thanks for the tut.

Hows about i describe actions:

Following the book in terms of set up up to step 6 (28.21 of Version 7 book, though I'm using LW8) which is when I see the object spread out in my UV view. After that its a guessing game. Like someone said before on another thread, it's easy, once you know what you're doing.

in rendered output animations, I see the aircraft, though the textures all slide off. In the book theres something about "tacking if down using the vertices" but I may be a little slow on the uptake. I'm used to doing interiors...shows I guess.

Bottom line is that I'm trying to see an aircraft thats textured, but having the texture follow the movements of the aircraft.

Again, any tut links are a help, especially with aircraft in mind.

oh, and the anim. is keyframed

Can you post the scene? I just tested a similar setup and it worked fine...

bryphi7 - post scene: sorry no can do

did you use same procedure as in the book or something different? If not, than how did you "make it stick"?

So you're in Layout, no texture is set to world coordinates, but the texture moves? If it wasn't software I'd say that's impossible! So, I'm assuming that the texture is standing still and the plane moves away from it?

If not:
There's a "reference object" drop-down list on the texture panel, make sure that's set to 'none' on every texture. At the bottom of the texture panel make sure that the 'E' buttons are inactive (shift+click) for scale, position and rotation.

Yes I'm in Layout. Going through some links that were posted earlier, I found something that helped me, though I get this reaction on the tail texture...see attached. Ideas on whats happening to the texture map? If its not one thing, its another...8/

the aircraft is moving away and yes the texture is being left behind.

ref. obj drop down is greyed out - the layer type is image map, projection is UV, UV Map is set in Mod (per info in book) and the image is set. Tiles are both reset.

The E buttons are no active, I dont have textures changing any values.

Here is my test... hope it helps. I am going to bed.
Done with uv's

bryphi7 - appreciate your help. I'm tired also, but am blasting maynerd in the lab myself.

So is it still sliding when using UV's?

That image looks like you have two layers of geometry, one with the map and one without - either that or it's a bad uv map

good luck...

toby, thats exacly the issue. Good diagnosis. It's late. I caught the mistake immediatly after posting.

I've mapped correctly, and seem to be rolling (famous last words at 4 am). Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

bryphi7 - thanks for your help also. I appreciate it. Hope you dream good tonight (without UVs) :)

Cool! Good to get it sorted out.
