I have a question about the DFX+ package included with the LightWave upgrade.

I noticed that it doesn't include any keying. Please forgive my ignorance if this is a dumb question -- because I'm no expert on compositing software -- but isn't keying an absolutely integral part of compositing?

The Keying Module is for things like Chromakey. You can still do things with alpha maps and masking.

Doesn't the limitation of 8 bit limit the color depth reduce the quality to a pretty limiting degree?

I wouldn't think so. It is 8 bit per channel or 24 bit total color, same as most images people work with. I don't know of many TVs or monitors that can display more than 8 bit/channel color yet. The main difference is the range of color. 8 bit is 16 million shades (256^3) vs 16 bits 281 trillion shades(65536^3). This is probably a bigger issue for film work.

Ah I missed the per channel part. That makes sense. I was thinking 8 bit total (i.e. 256 colors, you can imagine my concern)

Since I deal with digital video only I would only need DFX resolution 99.99% of the time :)

Thank you!
