Has anyone done some benchmarks on just how much Rendering performance enhancement you get with each added CPU core? I would expect each additional CPU core would have a diminishing return in Rendering performance in LW. So, I would guess that Dual cores would give something less than 2X but will another 2 cores (4 total cores) improve performance as much again? And finally is it worth going to 8 cores, doubling costs, for only a small improvement over 4 cores.

Just trying to figure out where the cost/performance limits are.

Is it worth going to 4 cores or 8 cores?

Is there any other Hardware CPU feature coming soon that will improve Rendering performance significantly.

I thought I heard that someone was building a dedicated hardware rendering engine that would have major performance improvement. Is this so?

Thanks,
Gregg

You will find some information in the following thread:

LW scales much better when using several instances instead of several threads.
So for long or complex scenes I use Nitisaras Harpoon render manager, which is very easy to use. Actually you start a network render job on the multiple cores of your machine.
