View Full Version : Snapping points to match surface in BG?

I have a flat plane which has been subdivided into a fine mesh. In the BG layer I have another surface which is highly irregular, cut from a piece of topography.

I'd like to have some of the points in the FG layer to move to the surface of the BG layer object, in other words to sort of mold themselves to the other irregular surface.

Is this possible via some plugin or existing tool within LW? I know there
is the add point and movepoint on BG plugins I found on Flay, but I already have the points, I just want them to move to match a different surface.

Thanks in advance.

you can use move snap in LWCAD, but that only does them one at a time, manually.

By moving points to mold to another surface, do you mean move points of a poly? If yes, check out rotate to object (under modify).

"movepoint on BG" is your friend ;-)
Just select the points you want to mold while having the displaced object
in the background, then move the cursor a bit and wait! Because depending
on the amount of points in the BG and points selected in the FG this can
take a little while! It is better to hide everything not beeing used in this

hi bluesmike.

I had to do this several times. What I used was the BGConformPlus plugin. Lightwave has a BGconfom plug but it has no options.

In Dodgy's site you can get it

play a little with the options and you'll get what you want.
It does exactly what you need.
Place the fine mesh on the foreground, the topography mesh on the background, choose Y as the conform axis, with a search radius of about 0.4 (you'll have to play with this), with the axis option on lock (with snap the points on the foreground mesh will snap on the points of the background mesh...and you don't whant this, I guess), and it should look ok.

meshpaint ?

BGConformPlus will work with points too. Not only polygons.

Many thanks, zardoz! That plugin did exactly what I needed. I knew there must be something like that out there.... just needed to find it.

Thanks again.
