View Full Version : Interactive Rail Extrusion...? EasySpline perhaps?

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to create quite a few rail extrusions, and I'd really like to be able to see what the extrusions are touching, if anything at all.

I have EasySpline, and figured this would work, but I have yet to figure out how... Can someone help me out? Any ideas or methods are most welcome. I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

Did you try profiler on LWCAD (ext tab)?

What's with C_Worm from pictrix? You can draw a base curve in the Background and move/refine/scale/rotate the extrusion as you want.

Sekhar, I have. It doesn't work.

kruemel_1, I'll find it right now, and give it a go!

Thanks for the response, the both of you. I appreciate it.

Update soon...

In what way? Works fine for me on Win32...pick a shape and drag mouse left to right. It's fully interactive and quite cool, actually.

There are many others that are more powerfull since it was created. But this is still usefull for applying multiple rail extrudes at once.

Rail Extrude with Easy Spline goes the same way as any other spline modeling..

First you need to make shapes that are connected with splines. Instead of making background layer curve, place shapes in the right places with the right alignment and size. In the below example I made one shape with Box tool, 2nd with Sphere tool and 3rd with Pen tool, then used EasySpline Make Spline tool to convert polygons to curves and connected a few of them on sphere. Then enabled EasySpline real-time previewer and made splines between shapes selecting their points and pressing control-p.. EasySpline immediately showed result and I could adjust shapes with modification tools and if needed freeze whole object with desired mesh resolution to normal polygons..

I can make video how to made it in a few minutes..

Use yesterday beta with interactive Freeze Spline in Preview modifing mode to adjust resolution, if needed.. In this example 15x15:

You mean to say, that you can move the spline around still, after having extruded the geometry? That's what I'm getting at, I've tried it a few times, but LWCAD didn't seem to work.

Pictrix's C_Worm is exactly what I was shooting for. :)

And thanks for the all the replies, I really appreciate the help.

P.S. Sensei, keep up the great work on your plugins. I use easyspline and easysplit a lot. :)

I have easyspline, but wouldn't use it for this. For pipes etc, get hairblade. I basically allows you to choose a cross section for the spline, and it automatically extrudes along it. You can even morph between one cross section and the next, if they have the same number of points, and it always remains editable and renderable unless you freeze it (like sub patches). You can't use UV maps (a limitation in the sdk) unless you freeze, but other projection and procedurals work.
