Does LW 9 still require the use of "air polys" for glass surfaces?

It does, unless you use a technique with nodes, I didn't quite get it since I hadn't used nodes yet, but you might find it in the node library forum.

LightWave requires the presence of a polygon face to indicate the inside of a refractive surface transition.

Traditionally this was done with "air polys". Now you can do it either that way, or with no duplicate geometry by using nodes to change the IOR on the backface of a double-sided surface. How to do this has been discussed elsewhere on the forums.
