Hi,

I am new to lightwave and I would like to know if there is any plugin or application available to translate IGES to LWO and LWO to IGES file.
In fact I am a CATIA V5 (CAD) user and I wonder if there is a way to import such files in Lightwave.

Thanks.

This is a fairly frequent request. We do not have one at this time. I take it this would be useful to you?

on the mac side i only know formz (http://www.formz.com/) (which reads IGES pretty well and writes excellent LWO's) and - if i'm not wrong - a special CAD version of C4D (http://www.maxon.net/pages/products/c4d/engineering/engineering_e.html) (edit: seems to be a polytrans bundle running on PC only). but a standard on the PC side seems to be polytrans (http://www.okino.com/conv/conv.htm).

hope this helps

That would be cool if lw could export/import into solidworks and the IGES format is pretty good!!

There's a free lscript somewhere to import/export to an STL file called SHM_STL_Importer_v1.11.ls and SHM_STL_Exporter_v1.11.ls. I couldn't get it to work with solidworks, it imports fine but the object is not editable.

I just found one for $29, if you have an intel Mac or access to a pc then it should do:

I work in the watchmaking industry and I use Catia V5 in the developpement of watch cases. It would be nice to do some rendering of watches I worked on from time to time. .step to .lwo or even .stl to .lwo would be ok as well.

formZ seems to be interesting as I am looking for something that would work on my imac G5. Any idea of the price?

Thanks

Would be great for me too. One of my frequent clients uses catia 5 and the conversion is very tedious and full of hard work...

.stl converter for lw is here and it's called "SHM STL Tools":

Ctrlview seems to be nice and the price is ok.
Just found out that formz would be a really big expense just to use it as a translator.
Too bad nothing simple seems to exist for power pc mac.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks everyone.

Tried the Lscritp but it doesn't seem to be working for me.
(Line 233, invalid selection mode active for selpolygon())
Am I doing soemthing wrong?
I am going to try different stl files.
I will give you some news if it works...

I think the Lscript works better in LW 8.5 or higher.
