Hi,

I have been trying to put together a useable Sub Surface Scattering surface using the Node Editor. I have had some success after looking into these two excellent threads:

I think personaly and for the community at large, a thread where we explore SSS would be a great benefit.

So come on, lets see those SSS surfaces

Hi,

Here is my progress so far:

Here is the Node setup, based on a setup from Lino Grandi:

I understand that the 'Spot Info', 'Polygon Side' node plugged into the 'Logic' node stops the need for air polygons, but I am unsure which setting to use in the 'Logic' node.

I read on CGtalk, that the 'Penetration' setting in the 'Omega' node is based on the size of the object, but other than that, not being a technical person myself, I am in the dark.

Here is a loop animation of a test scene where an Area light orbits the mesh which has the Node setup applied:

There's already a thread exploring sss which is getting fairly close.

Yours isn't bad either. It's a slightly different approach from what's been posted so far.
