How would i use a seamless square texture to texture a non cubic object? or is that not possible, i made a landscape and i want to use a grass texture on it, but if i use planar mode on the Y axis, it streches and looks ugly in places where elevation is changed. Any ideas?

UV map it. millions of tuts on this.

Flay and NT are a good place to start.

if i uv map a whole landscape the image file for the texture would have to be humoungous to look decent, how could i just repeat the one square tile?

If you scale the UV- map in the UV- window to be larger than the grid, the texture will tile.

Another trick we used to use as far back as the amiga days was to do this:
Create a grid that will be the start of your landscape.
In a background layer put your landscape match your grid to your landscape.
Apply the texture to the grid and tile it.
Create a new morph or an endomorph
Use the BGconform plugin or the free KO_Pointfit plugin
to conform the grid to your landscape in the background.
In layout use the morphed version and the textures will
always be projected along the polygon normals rather then smearing.
