i haven't gotten screamernet to work using renderfarm commander, and I figured it was an incompatibility, but now my co-worker (on a PC no less) tol dme that screamernet shows the same symptoms if he tries to control it from lightwave... it renders but doesn't save files.

so does the lw 9 vers of screamernet work for anybody?

Works like a charm over here, using Muster, but that's just a render manager telling Screamernet what to render.
Kinda weird if Renderfarm Commander wouldn't work with LW9, i'm guessing it basically talks with Screamernet like all the other managers, and nothing much the Screamernet communication front has changed (but don't take my word for it), have you tried contacting Bruce?

it renders but doesn't save files.

That's often a symptom of one of two things.

Sometimes the remote nodes can't find the image saver plugins due to a bad plugin path in the config.

Sometimes the remote nodes can't save to the indicated content directory.

I've been running screamernet here non-stop for months on LW9 (all through the open-beta period) rendering my 3D short film: BlastOff! (http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53591) and haven't had any problems.

I'm currently using ScreamerNet Controller for Mac OS X rather than the built-in controller.

Here's my tutorial on using two very good third-party controllers on the Mac (ScreamerNet Controller for Mac OS X and RenderFarm Commander). Advanced Network Rendering with LWSN Mac (http://dreamlight.com/insights/10/advanced_network_rendering.html)

It's part of my DreamLight Insight, Mastering LightWave Screamernet on Mac OS X (http://dreamlight.com/insights/10/welcome.html) which NewTek used for the Mac Screamernet chapter in the LW9 reference manual. The advanced section referenced above, about third-party controllers, wasn't included in the manual... but you can still read it on DreamLight.com

Hope it helps!

well, without any hard work I got a single node running using LW as a controller. I went back to my co-worker, and he's going to check his configs.

now I'm gonna take a close look at renderfarm commander.

Bruce says there is a fix in the works for render farm commander,
but in theory... there is an easy workaround.

commander builds your nodes for you, and to do this it copies screamernet into a folder, copies the configs to a folder adjacent to that one and redirects scremernet to point to that. the problem is that renderfarm commander is looking for configs native only to LW 8 As all of the LW config files identify which version they are for in their name... for instance : "LightWave Modeler 8 Prefs". So Renderfarm Commander copies the WRONG config files. I haven't tested it yet, but you "should" be able to copy the correct configs into the appropriate folder, and have everything work perfectly.
