View Full Version : Consideration for LW9 node developers

Hi there!

I just noticied that node editors are not updated when frame slider is moved in Layout and there is no other option to update preview in Surface Editor and Node Editor window than pressing Update.. After a while it starts to be very annoying, so I thought to write Master Handler plug-in that monitors the all frame slider changes and call "refresh panel" on NodeEditorID for each surface.. And guess what? There's no way in SDK to update them..

To check what I am observing make 2 nodes with Constant > Color, assign different colors like red and green and connect them to Tool > Mixer as Fg Color and Bg Color and open Envelope window for Opacity input and make a few clicks.. Then connect output color to surface color channel.. And move Layout frame slider.. (this procedure is also fine for specular single value channels! don't worry about channel conversion Specular->Color and Color->Specular)

maybe this is one of the issues worley has to hook fprime into lw as well?

No, that's completely different thing.. FPrime & nodal for surfaces suffers from multi-threading issues..

You are the perfect example of why Newtek often gobbles up talented people. I'm really impressed with your knowledge of the software and your plugins. Hopefully Newtek notices this and gives you the opportunity to work more closely with the software, something like how the work with Worley.:thumbsup:
