I know there is a Soften Reflections plugin with LW, but its global.

Is there a way to soften reflections on a per surface level ? I have a car to do and parts of the body need soft reflections whilst the others do not.

thx

In lightwave 8:
In the surface editor under the environment tab there is a reflection bluring amount (below image seam angle)

In Lightwave 9:
Use the reflection node (under shaders>reflection)

Many thanks, Karmacop. Now I`ll go put my brain back in :)

Please note that real blurred reflections render very slowly. The image filter is much faster, but also much less accurate. You can limit the image filter to specific surfaces using the special buffers.

One thing you could do is use a relatively low number of samples for the blurred reflections, and then use the reflection blurring image filter to smooth out the noise.
