I downloaded the zBrush demo to test, but the function to import and export from Lightwave is disabled.

Does anyone have some simple model done in LW and zBrush that would demonstrate the paint and sculpting features? I would need to see if this would import into the game engine I'm using and how it's going to render out. Even a simple cube with simple painting texturing and sculpting is fine.

$500 is a lot to shell out and find out that it won't work in my game engine.

There are free Zbrush objects and displacment maps on the Pixologic website.
The same object and textures are used in an APS/Nodal video on NT's site.
That scene is included in the LW9 content.

If you decide to buy, you might want to check out ZBrush prices at http://www.kurvstudios.com/

I wonder if that would include a free upgrade to 2.5 when it's released? I don't see any information regarding that. Good price.

Pixologic stated the 2.5 upgrade will be free to all users of 2.0, so in theory it should, however it was 2.5 years ago since they announced it (!) Either way, it is a good price :)

Not sure if you're aware of this program (http://www.mudbox3d.com/), but its another sculpting app. It's still in beta, so unless you join the program, I guess there's no other way to know how it works. However, it's being tested by some big game developers.

"At Pixologic, we are extremely proud of the achievements attained by ZBrush users and we are deeply thankful for the support and enthusiasm exhibited by the ZBrush community. As our way of saying thanks, the next ZBrush update will be made available as a free-update to all registered ZBrush users (including users who will register between now and the release of the next update)!"

Above from the following link on Pixologic's website (last paragraph).

[edit] for the record, I have no relationship with either Pixologic or Kurv :)

Here is a link to the low poly head model and displacement map that they show in the tutorial. You'll have to flip the map vertically to get it to work.

I did that tutorial and it works perfectly. You can really control how many polys are generated with that gradient technique.

Just saw this thread, and yes... it does. Buying from us is just like buying from Pixologic themselves.

If you have any questions please feel free to email us at sales1 at kurvstudios dot com.

Also, were getting ready to run another special on ZBrush Monday, buy from us and get a free copy of Get into ZBrush from Glen Southern.

Kurv, do you have the downloadable version of ZB?
This thread acknowledges that yes, it the 2.5 upgrade is free, it also shows some more 2.5 features. I really recommend buying it.
