Start up layout, then go to utilities / add plugins and it will add three plugins. (Import FBX, Export FBX and Merge FBX) Add them to the menu of you choice.

What threw me for a while was that you use them in layout, not modeler. I've had mixed results with them, good luck!

I just tried it on an usatisfactory sample of one and it worked. (Had me worried, I hadn't tried it with LW9)

Make sure you're using the default file requestor, it doesn't like the VB one. Oh and I'm also using one of the ones for LW8, one version or another, never noticed much difference, just use the latest one you have.

...will there ever be a refresh on plugin? on official site at autodesk, there are only xsi, maya and 3ds plugins to download... :(

I'm new to Lightwave. I have a model I want to export to Maya. I downloaded the FBX export plug-in. In Lightwave 8 I am going to the utilities and adding the plugin to my scene, but I still cannot export as FBX. Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I'm on a Mac if that matters.

If you just want to export the model save it as .obj.

I use FBXLW80.p as my FBX pulgin and I can say with total confidence that it imports, exports and merges just fine and dandy. :)

It is the FBX that comes with your LW CD for LW8 and I think is available as a download as well on the Newtek site some place.

Wow, they're still calling it Kaydara on their site. The link to the Kaydara site is 100% busted too.

You know, I tried importing some FBX scenes from Motionbuilder 7.5 and I got a hash of an object in LW 9, using the fbx8.0 plugin. Doesn't work well with 9?

You have to export from MB in version 5 of FBX to get it into LW.

Yeah, like Larry saiys, they are not exactly pushing data-transfer with LW with versions 6 onwards. In fact, the latest versions don't even attempt to provide the plugin for LW.
