Hi,

Probably something that did not get notice in the beta stage.
Create a Null , erase the null name, Type enter, Crash.
Lightwave will crash if your null has no name, instead of re-inputing a Default
name.

Hope it get's fixed.

Confirmed on Win 32. James, what's your platform?

It crashes when creating then null, but not renaming the null after it has already been created. I think the description was a bit confusing, and is probably why James didn't get the crash.

Ok, new steps ..

1. clear your scene
2. click on items>null
3. remove "Null" from the text box so it is blank
4. click ok

Yup, if I follow KarmaCops example it would crash, but then, in a way, I'd kinda expect it to.

If the name is a string, you'r returning zero length, which could mean it's pointing to an arbitrary section of memory so "boom".

I guess for me this is a "non-bug" because there seems little point in having an object in your scene with no name at all, at best, a dangerous thing to do. Can you imagine the chaos trying to figure out what the objects are if they are all null-names, even assuming it bothers to display the object at all.

But it does crash Lightwave, and I'd call that a serious bug :p

:agree:

Even if it is a case of 'death by misadventure' - it shouldn't be...

I agree, it should throw up an error or automatically add a new name.
