View Full Version : Reducing noise

He guys,

Any profi tips out there on reducing shading noise while rendering? The noise reduction routine of lightwave is not very impressive I must say.
I know there should be some trick with using motion blur but I've never been able to pull it off myself. I tried the demo of neat-image but find smart-blur in PS CS2 a lot better.
Still, it must be possible to get some clean renders native from Lightwave while using area lights and/or radiosity. Help apreciated!

Noise reduction does do quite a good job I've found, the more samples you use the better the result though.

The MBlur trick involves using Interpolated Radiosity, turning the Caching for it off, and turning Motion Blur on with a number of AA passes. This blends a series of splotchy samples into something fairly smooth, and works well for low frequency lighting. You'll lose detail in tight corners though.

You'll never get a perfectly noiseless image
