I did not get many shots, and they are not very good, but I want to start this thread and hope others will post any shots they got at the party (July 15, 2006 in Hollywood).

Thanks to NewTek for providing a great opportunity for networking with fellow users!

Thanks to NewTek for a great new release!

Thanks to NewTek for dedication to continuous improvement going into the future!

Bog: No that is not an F-150, and I had a carload driving up from San Diego, so we took my wife's car (the white Mazda Tribute SUV near the middle).
Wish you had been there - it was fun!

Hey, there are girls at the event!
I mean...you know, in this industry there are not a lot..hehe.

JeffRutan

There were more females there than I expected, and every one I asked was in the industry, not just tagging along with a significant other. A large majority of the people there were guys, but there are some really tallented female LightWave artists out there, and some of them were at the party.

Jen (AKA Celshader) is sierra-hotel when it comes to the Wave. I believe she's Dave Jerrard's S.O.

There are many more ladyfolk than one would expect in 3D. This is quite possibly because we haven't given them enough credit for being able to detect an incredibly cool way to make a living and buy into it :)

Wait! Wait! Wait!

Hold on...

Jenn is married to Dave?!

****... I'll have to stop hitting on her!

;-)

LW_Will... who should know better...

Oh, it's a shame. I was in Hollywood just a few days ago.

I would expect more original cars of the Newtek lot...

;)

All the NewTek folks were probably in rentals since they flew in from Texas, and a lot of the users appear to be starving artist. ;-)

Nice to know Ron Thornton was there - His work on Babylon 5 was my main inspiration for buying LW in the first place. And his training video was the thing that finally got me producing stuff I was not ashamed of!

You mean, there were, GASP, people who got into LW that weren't influenced by Babylon5? Shurely Shome Mishtake. :p ;)

I was one of the unfortunates that couldn't make it. I was going to go with Jeff, Carm and SDLWUG but NT's invitation to the party came a little late for me, for my family already had something planned for the weekend. :(

Nifty??? is that the same people who developed the free UVMake_Edit unwrapper plugin? And what are those Lightwave bags they are carrying in the tokyo party?

Did everyone who attented the party got a LW 9 shirt or was it part of the raffle? who won what? details-details-details please.

JeffRutan

Yes Jim Plant is the guy in the red shirt by the plant. ;-) Stephen Burns is the guy in the blue Hawaiian shirt right behind him.
Everyone got a 9.0 shirt, and there were several raffle winners, but the only ones I knew were Stephen Burns who got a free copy of 9.0 (but he traded it to another winner for a copy of SpeedEDIT), and Larry Shultz won a little light-up thing that looked like a sex toy.
Others will have to chime in with names of other winners (some very well known, but I am too new to the industry to recognize them).
There were also a couple other workstations set up in the other room running some demos, but I didn't recognize the guys who were running those demos.
Someone else please chime in if you know who other prizewinners were or who was running the other demos or who was speaking in the presentation.

Not gonna ask how you know what light-up sex toys look like. I cherish my innocence... ;)

Thanks Jeff for posting photos from the event.

I wish I could be there.
Maybe next year at Siggraph or the Friendsgraph...?

Is there i photo of you in there?

JeffRutan
07-17-2006, 05:41 PM
Would be fun to meet anyone from this community in person! I plan to attend SIGGRAPH here in San Diego next year.
I don't have any pictures of me at the event becasue I was the one behind the camera, but I may show up in photos taken by others. I know the official photographer took one of me with Michael Kornet (a NewTek marketing VP), so maybe that will show up when they post those pictures. There is a small pict of me in my user profile.

I think it's so brilliant that NewTek honoured Ron Thornton. He really blazed the trail, and set the bar for a lot of us, me included.

Thank you, guys, for thanking him from all of us.
