I am always on the look-out for new 3d or lightwave models online, so I am asking if anyone swears by any websites that have GOOD free 3d models.

These are not LW native but Blender is a free download and can export to Lightwave. There are some high quality models here.

Matters on what type of models you are looking for, if they are people, trucks, animals, equipment, etc etc.

Here are the sites I always go to:

http://www.turbosquid.com/
http://www.planit3d.com/source/index.htm
http://www.renderosity.com/
http://www.3dtotal.com/

But some of these you have to convert from obj or 3ds......but that shouldn't be a problem, real easy.

Sometimes you don't know what models you will need until you actually need them. I am just on the look-out for links to good sources, which usually lead to finding what you need when you need it!

www.Renderosity.com has been the best response to my question, that website is packed with all types of stuff for all types of programs. Thanks!

Don't forget good old http://www.3dcafe.com which has a free section of models.

The old 3d cafe stuff was Huge and was categorized in proper model type such as house, vehicles, etc..

Now 3d models are embedded within 3dvia community, and it doesnīt seem to be the old archives unfortunatly, and they seem to miss a sorting option for model type in categorie of mentioned type.
Neither does it seem to have as many models as it had before...I could be wrong thou and missing something?

As far as I remember it was that girl(Drew Barrymore) who had that thingie:D

Whatever did happen to 3dcafe? Been dead for years now.

yeah Itīs strange that they couldīt keep and provide all the old models they had that were free.
I never go there anymore because of that.

Anyone have that link floating around for the gazillion free character models from William Vaughan? (3 archived packs or so).

They used to be on CGSociety but those links are dead: Free 3D Models from William 'Proton' Vaughan (http://www.cgsociety.org/index.php/CGSFeatures/CGSFeatureSpecial/from_us_to_you_free_3d_character_models).

You can always hit up Sketchup's 3D warehouse. You get 8 hours of time with their pro version, which I use to export to 3DS. It even keeps the UV map!
