Incoming UV newbie.

I know of the use 2 different models method, which is done often in films, but I'm trying to head for a high-detailed model where the model is very high-res where camera zooms up on the creature.

The idea is to paint one texture in Zbrush and then mix it with another texture for the head/eye (using an alpha or something to blend the two textures) To get that to work, does someone know if scaledown of a texture using UV projection is possible? (by not changing the resolution) pict attached below.
Was thinking I could have used this method for higher detail around the eye area. Hmm,.. trying to twist my head around to see if it even is possible.

Any UV experts out there? :)

Method 2 I was thinking could work would be upscalling the head and paint in Zbrush.
