hi guys.. im new here.... and im very new in 3d...
im learning this 3d course and my first assignment is to model a zippo lighter...
it may sound easy to u guys... but the lecturer didnt gave us a clue on how we should do it and so on.. i dun even know anythin bout lightwave... i just know how to do a ball and thats it... texture or wutever i just understand.. so i was wondering if u could help on this... is there any tutorial that i can find...? a step by step tutorial... or just a simple tutorial that i can understand... really need u guys help...!! thanks...! :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

:D I am not liking your professor, although maybe this is the best way to learn.:rolleyes: If you go to the Lightwave site they have a whole bunch of tutorials on getting started and the basics. I don't think they specifically have one on a Zippo. Have you done an image search yet? Zippo lighters tend to be all one and the same, except that they have some extrodinary designs on them. Does your professor want it open or closed?

By the sound of that lecturer he won't be happy unless it's an animated mechanism with a hypervoxel flame. :D

Here's a nice one I just found on the web, this was made in max although it's entirely reproducable in lightwave. As it's your first project I wouldn't suggest going anywhere near this level of detail. Just start out learning with basic building blocks, bevelling etc.

If it's to be animated, I'd have the innards come out of the case and move around by itself. Maybe having it trying to put out it's fire.
