View Full Version : Distorting volumetric lights

One thing I wanted in LW8 but could never find how to do, was to shape a volumetric light. I am mainly thinking of a simple squash of a spherical volumetric point light, so it's zone of illumination is more lens shaped. (This is for nebulae).

I don;t syuppose this is in LW9?

or better that there is a trick for doing it in 8.x?

I think I've read that if you parent the light to a null, you can resize the null (which will affect its child light) to squash or stretch the volumetric effect.

I just tried that - it displays as squashed on screen, but the volumetric effect is still spherical. Nice idea though, thanks!

Volumetric lights in 9 work with nodal, which should open up a lot of possibilites.
