View Full Version : Any Pismo-users with upgrades?

I'm about to get a powerlogix 900Mhz (http://www.powerlogix.com/products2/bcg3pismo/index.html) upgrade for my 500Mhz G3 powerbook pismo.
This 900Mhz 750FX might be able to run between 300- and 900Mhz(even 1Ghz I've heard), and use some less power than the current 500 G3.
Does any one have impressions from LW use with it?
Will it serve LW better if I go with the 500 G4 upgrade?

I would personally recommend against both of them. I bought a pretty expensive Powerlogix upgrade card for my Wallstreet powerbook and while it was great at first, over time it became highly unstable. I get the impression that they have resolved the reliability issues since then, but the whole experience made me realize that that money would have been better spent if I had just used it to save up for my next computer.

From a Lightwave useability point of view, I would guess that your video card is the main problem, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Placed the order yesterday.
Could not stop myself from getting one anyway :)
My pismo deserves one, even if I probably will buy a AluBook this autumn with decent grafix.

Well, now I have this bluechip upgrade.
Some faster LW, but not that much :(
I run the chip at 950Mhz, as it freezes at 1Ghz.
Even though I seen some running it at 1Ghz at the xbench website.

Same batterylife, same temperature.
But at least Jaguar is lot faster :)

Battery life is always the limiter with laptop computers. Imagine when Apple replaces their batteries with fuel cells. Then they could stick dual processors in the Powerbooks!
