I heard from some that we won't see modelling tools in layout in 9.0, is it true?

True. While some people might try to brainwash You with "There are modelling plugins working" and "You can already activate many modeler plugins but they have no interface yet", the truth is: You can not do any sub-object selection (vertex, edge, poly) in Layout, therefor no real modelling can be done.
I wasn't even able to get the infamous "modeling tools that work on the whole object" to work, like bend, rotate or shear.

from the LW9 FAQ:
http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/lw9_faq.php

"Why arenít there more modeling tools in Layout?
The migration of modeling tools into Layout will be longer and more involved than we first thought, and we are putting a great deal of thought and effort into the design. There are many issues in Layout that need to be addressed in order for us to really open up modeling power in Layout, but we are working on them with dedication."

Some to many of the modeling tools work now but most dont have an interface to really make much use of them.
At least this indicates that somethings coming :)
