things that make you go GRRR!...

i'm finding that using the net is getting more annoyng as time goes on!
...here's some annoying things...

you get given a hyperlink and rh click to 'save target as' only to find the link is not to the file it describes but to a pop up html page where you have to wait til it apperas before you can actually try n find the REAL link...if it's actuall there!!
what's all that about?....F**** annoying and seems to be the trend thesedays!

also i entered a survey a while back about 3d artist salaries...and filled in the form with details...today i get a reply in the email saying it's available...went to the link and you have to BUY the results at $29!!!....what the heck!:thumbsdow

flash websites....geez i wish people who designed them actually tried to use them!.....floating graphics of pictures that refuse to stay still so you can have a look at them!....links that are embedded into the page so you can't get there quickly but have to trawl thru the site each time...

websites that load stacks of adverts around 4 lines of text which is surposed to be an indepth review!...this then takes 9 pages of single parargraphs to a page to read and a huge amount of time to load just to get a brief review:argue:

it's like the stuff that is cool to read is now buried in sh** you have to throw both your arms in to pull out the info you want....

information supa hiway?
....more like a information sespit!

..okay moan over with!:D

I agree, it's very frustrating when you click on a link to read some information about something, then after going through ten web pages with a lot of ad's find out that you have to pay a membership to be able to read the info you were after.

Flash sites always have a tendency to move things around more than necessary. Just because you can animate everything doesn't mean you should animate everyting.

It's a hard life we are living. :)

dear cress

i am with you mate..on flash website...(i mean i dont get it..i will never get it..you want to access a webpage but no you have to see the skills of the webdesigner..god..give me the info, pictures..NO mate..you have to wait..for what?? for A FLASH ANIMATION..for a music that i should turn off immediately...)

and i am also with you on indepth review. It is not fully grrrr but gr ..for now. Let say i couldnt read Matchmover review because of the same reason. Right now After Effects review is also released same way. It can be in only 3 pages with smaller photos and more text. I mean review is something written right...YOu gotta read the review ..not watch the review...(at least in a non-video webpage) I believe Kurv will make the CGFocus' reviews so much more refined and easy to navigate...so This is not full grr...

And i especially hate the threads named .."I have a problem"
I mean we all have problems but can you just write what is your problem in the headliner? I mean it is really making me fully grrr. I am gonna write a song for this..and the title "i have a problem"..and the lack of ability of using SEARCH function. I believe SEARCH function is directly an EGO killer. So people wants to WRITE something..I know ..I do.. And that SEARCH is simply preventing..EVIL..SUPEREGO of the FORUM. So EGO is feeling depressed and ORDINARY. Why? Because one thousand users also asked exact same question and EGO feels " **** i am not different..what the f**k so i will write only I have a problem. People will get interested." No mate we get only pissed... SO i am grrring to that Egos.

THere are more but..it is enough.

hey back on flash website...i REALLY do not ''get'' loading screens!

60%.....70%.....80%....hey buddy i'm gone!...left your site and looking somewhere else!

most loading scenes are just that...a place to WAIT...all it's doing is stopping you see the progress of the site coming in and giving you a % instead...

i'd sooner see the site come in!...doh!
and example of a geat looking flash website that i find annoying to use is this one...great product..disgusting u.i.
the floating pics really p** me off!..STOP STILL! already!!!!!...it's like trying to read the adsverts on the side of a bus passing by!...just give me a scroll bar and be done with it!!!

I see you're as crazy as ever TYROT :)
I do hate the amount of ads on sites these days. What I do is resize my browser window so I can only see the article in the middlle, and not the hordes of leaping and pulsating flash adverts that totally surround it.
It's because so many people are trying to earn easy money from sites these days. Commercialism of anything will make it suck.
I can't go to any site anywhere these days without seeing bloody google ads, and no, I've never ever cicked on a single ad anywhere for any reason.
Some people obviosuly do though, otherwise they wouldn't bother with ads at all

Well, if we're widening it out, then I hate televison. All television. I don't know if it's because I'm looking back on older TV shows from the perspective of the kid I was at the time, maybe the shows back then were actually just as crap, but I essentially never watch any TV at all these days. It seems to be aimed at people with the intellectual capacity of a boiled potato
I know people who's entire evening consists of watching the television.
Having said this, I also hate modern movies, music and all popular culture these days.
THe best thing to do would be to throw it all away and start again - either that or give me back the brain of the 12 year old boy I was when I loved the sort of stuff I now despise.

that would drive me nuts too....if...i didn't use the adblock plug-in for firefox. i get almost zero ads on the sites i frequent, and even some i am just passing thru.

as far as flash sites go, it seems no matter how hard you try, a client will insist on a page that animates and sings. grrrr:devil:

Well in my case, I have a free website hosted at Yahoo. Along with that comes adds, but considering it's free it's not that annoying.
Besides, most pop-up blockers takes care of most of that. At least for now anyway until advertisers find ways around it.

I remember when the first Java script floating menu first appeared. Boy was that annoying and everyone had one. At first it's mildly amusing, but after a couple of vists it really gets annoying and I end up not going to those sites anymore.

I think web designers should live by this motto "Keep it simple stupid". The more annoying, time consuming, and irritating the site becomes, the less people will visit it.

Surely that doens't work for sites that make their own ads though, it's just for the generic ads you get on multiple sites.
Maybe there's an adblock plugin for opera...

edit: Yep, there is one in fact - http://www.operaadfilter.com

It not just that ads exist. I'll accept that something has to pay for the content we take for granted on the net. It's the fact that those dopey postage stamps and banners use FLASH and Javascripting that really slams your CPU.

Or my favorite net peave: The load of a content page is held up or stalled by a call to an adserver. Imagine if TV worked this way...

Warning strong language ahead...

Ok, here are a few on my list:

Streaming video that one can not download to the HD to watch offline.
There are people that have a monthly datatransfer- limit, you know!
The most stupid version of this is if they have high quality versions that only stream and their server is to slow to handle it. Whats the point?
STUPID!!!

Mozilla requiring web- programmers to code tables extra for Mozilla so it does them correctly...
THANKS FOR THE ADDITIONAL WORK!

Quicktime
Why the h**l do I have to install f******g stupid Itunes in order to get the latest version of Quicktime? Why is it cramming my computer with all sorts of stupid Itune- related stuff thats running as autostarting processes in the BG all the time?
Why the h**l are people still insisting using that stuff anyway?
Just because it is by Apple?
I HATE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS!

Viruses, Hackers and Spammers
Spammers, please get it: I AM NEVER GOING TO BUY ANY OF YOUR WORTHLESS SH*T, ESPECIALLY NOT SINCE YOU SPAM ME WITH IT.
Who is dumb enough to buy from spammers? Seemingly plenty of idiots out there, or spamming would not be such a great business as it obviously is.
Grrrrr, one day I will catch you and then I will cut off every one of your bodyparts that you sent me enlargement- spam emails for!!!

Dear hackers, do something usefull and hack those sites that advertise via spamming and not good sites for artists. Where is your so much cited honor?
Or is it against your ethics to fight against anything else but MS?
Oh, maybe you are the ones who need certain bodyparts enlarged and need those prescription drugs? So you actually like those pages and find the information in those spam- emails useful? Would explain why you need to hack harmless sites in order to boost your tiny "ego", hu?

Dear Entertainment Industry:
During the last 15 years you managed to make entertainment more and more unentertaining. Hows that possible?
By you inventing wonderfully useless and customer- unfriendly things like scratchable digital media, region codes, DRM and DRM- software.
By producing only 2nd class movies and music during the last 15 years and then blaming everyone else but yourself for the lack of money you make with it.
By giving us DVD- recorders, Harddiscrecorders and Replay TV but not allowing us to record most of the programms on TV legally, or if we are allowed to, we are not allowed to cut out the adds anymore.
By pressing for the right to violate the privacy of your customers completely bypassing any data- security and privacy rights that ever existed (and that were until recently not even breakable by the police if they were looking for murderers and terrorists).

SIGH
Feeling a bit better now.

Oh...my BIGGEST peave in general at the moment is how they turn up the volume of adverts on TV. You watch a programme at, say, level 26 - then the adverts hit and you have to turn it down to 16! Just makes me mute it. If I was a serious TV watcher I'd get really annoyed, but as it is I just about to manage Dr Who when I remember it's on ;)

As for grammar and spelling - dear people don't get me started on grammar and spelling...especially graphic designers who feel the need to drop every comma and apostrophe they possibly can!

Oh yes - I am definitely a grumpy old man at the ripe age of 36 :D

I hate these A-holes that go to the bar to order a round of drinks without bothering to find out what to order, then proceeds to hold a parliamentary debate (usually conducted at shouting level, across the pub) over who wants what and then stands and waits until the first drink has been poured and presented to them before finding out what the next person wants to drink and repeating the entire process for each and every person in the group they are in.

Now on wioht the hatefest:

I hate apps that install an icon in your system tray without asking permission - even worse, ones that install an 'autostart with windows' by default.
In fact, I hate bulky commercial apps of any kind, the smaller and simpler the better. Just give me pure functionality and NOTHING esle.

Wipe Them Out!!!

All Of Them!!!!

It will never change in a capitalist society. If you demand better driving skills, there will be fewer accidents, so the body & paint shops will suffer. If you demand better driving skills, the car dealers and the gas stations and the insurance bastards will not make as much money. Ditto the Autozones, drive-thru at Burger King, Licensing Bureau, etc. etc., ad infinitum.

So, you see, these bad drivers must be kept on the road.

It is you, the driver who actually is *not* an idiot, that must be stopped. *You* are a danger to society. Why are *you* in such a hurry anyway?

But, we're all nice and domesticated now, so it will not change. We're living to high-on-the-hog to rise up and revolt against the idiocy that pervades our lives.

Also, post office workers and the DMV here in the US are freakin the limit of sane human tolerance!

OK, here we go, there was a guy on tv recently. Black leather (posers) jacket, died blonde hair (aka Peter Stringfellow), taking his kids out in his black Humvee, this is the UK, (some country roads have difficulty accomodating a Nissan Micra), and he was sat at a wildlife park telling his kids that due to idiots around the world burning too much fuel these penguins wouldn't be around for too much longer. He would stop driving Giant Vehicles when the government forced him too. He thought that was fair.

All late 70's and early 80's european cars have rust problems, renaults, citroens, mercedesses, volvos, (MG's! ha!) etc, thus this alfa too. It is because at the time there was a boycot on steel from where the steel normally comes from, and they had to use inferior russian steel that was not intended for car use. This in combination with a decrease in panel thickness makes all cars from that era prone to rust, even american. Ever seen a early '80s camaro lately :)...
It's alFa by the way, for Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili. Then a guy named Romeo bought the factory in 1920, and it became Alfa Romeo.

Don;t worry, I take good care of her, she has received a thorough anti corrosion treatment in the Netherlands where I am from. I mean, that picture was taken last year, when she was 24. I guess it works huh? :) As well as many other things such as updated computer, so I can adjust the ignition and mixture curves on the fly on a palm pilot. That in combination with a genius engine design that is as efficient as it is robust and pretty, makes for a very solid, environmental friendly and quick drive. All under 1100 kilos.

I still wish we drove on air though, and I usually walk everywhere. :\

OOops-

Alright already, confession City. I may have partaken of such god awfull productions in my time.

Here's one that still exists, It won't be up for long mind, its days are numbered, and Dare.Me is turning into something else.

In my favour I had a limited amount of time to create this, at the time most connections were modem based with the exception of an occasional ISDN. Basicaly I wrote the thing having to compensate for extrememly slow connections and didn't have the time to rewrite the loading routine when I'd finished to compensate. It shows a quicky 5,4,3,2,1, then a loading marker (percentage - works irrelevant of your speed). When fnished click on the white arrow (turns red when you click) to play (turn up your volume)

OK, it was a time issue, that's my excuse. :)

Try this for size, it works irrelevant of your connection speed, stick with it if you fancy the animation (It'll take about a minute).
