View Full Version : using the viewports

i thought I'd use my first post on this forum to ask a really embarrasing question.

I'm having a very dificult time navigating the perspective viewport in modeler. it seems that no matter what i do, LMB or RMB, all I'm able to do is rotate my object up or spin it on it z axis. Very frustrating.

I've seen video tuts where that demonstrate that I am the problem here, not LW.

What is the trick to using the perspective view?

thanks for any help.

hold down the Alt key and LMB; this allows you to rotate freely in perspective (and layout).

took me a while to figure this out as well :hey:

Another tip on navigating. Select a point and hit Ctrl-A. The viewport will now rotate around that point.

Not sure if it's the same on Mac or what the Mac equivalent to that is.

Use Alt+Ctrl+left mouse button to zoom in or out
Use Shift+Alt+left mouse button to move around

This are the buttons on the mac... translate them yourself for the pc :)

Yes, and use the 'g' key to focus quickly on an area, and the ',' and '.' keys to zoom in and out via keyboard. 'a' fits everything in view, shift-a fits selected...
using all of these together is one happy navigation circus :)

Uh, I had a brain freeze. .... Oh, with LW the viewport is as if looking through the camera. Some apps use the object perspective, so it can be a little confusing if switching between apps where the rotation is different. THat took a little getting used to.
