I've been trying to figure out why the App. I am coming from never seems to want to address the lack of a demo for their new version (if you've read my posts before, you know what I'm referring to) properly. Now it seems (since I've switched to LW), my replies to threads about a demo never seem to see the light of day:screwy:

Things such as this (coupled with the oustanding customer support, and responsiveness here) are making me realize that coming here was the best thing I could have ever done. Not to mention that LW has a far greater toolset, with animation/bones that actually work.

OK, I've got that off my chest....Rant Over:D

People always seem to be trying to convince themselves they made the right decision for their 3d tool, it usually takes the form of putting down other apps, so it's nice to see it a little more positive.

Out of curiousity, what did you switch from?

TrueSpace and GameSpace. They're good programs to learn 3D, but I found the instability (constant and inconsistant crashing) and the lack of a real Undo function to be quite maddening at times. They are still trying to hash out a decent animation/bone system as well. But the lack of a demo, and the inability to address the many requests for a tutorial of version 7 (for the most part) was what finally drove me to start searching for a new home. The community is great there as well, but I didn't want to keep learning a program that may or may not have the features I need in the future. I'm still using it right now, until I can be fully productive with LW.

Now all I need is a good book :)

Welcome aboard, I now what You mean as I switched from Truespace myself several years ago and haven't looked back. I loved the inneractivity, but I hated all the crashes, talk about saving often. Anyways, feel free to ask away and my favorite community of LW users will gladly help you out.
Here is some info for you.

That first one Silk metioned, it is the absolute must have in your bookmarks.

If you really want to push your mind

This is, probably, the most intense and complex modelling tutorial I've ever seen for free and will stretch you good N proper.

Sean is also going to extend the tutorial to texturing and animation so it's a real workout in every respect. :) Not to mention, very cool ...and yes, I am rather biased. :)

There's nothing wrong with being biased :D Thanks for your help as well, Colkai.

EDIT: Wow, my wife and I loved Firefly and Serenity; modeling this should help bring me up to speed with some of the tools, and make something cool to boot. Thanks again!

Well, in defense of those people, I have to say that I couldn't personally blame GandB if he wanted to trash Truepsace some. I was using Truespace before I came to Lightwave and I would have to say hands down, it has possibly the worst GUI in the industry. It took my hatred of icons to a whole new level.

You're welcome Keith, the guys are very helpful too so don't hold back with the questions if you get stuck or want to ask. I'm at apoint now where I get all the help I can (building the 'neck' section). Look forward to seeing you "over there" :)
