Are UV maps the only way to send textures to max? I have a model of a house and all the textures are image maps. Is there any way to send this object to 3dmax and have all the textures translate onto the object? If so, what is the best way?

IF all the images belong to UV maps on the model, then there's no problem, just go to file-export-3ds.
Probably better to download deep exploration and use that, since the LW 3ds export makes you triple the model, and thogh it saves the UV maps, you will have to manually assign the images again in max.

Thanks....but I don't have any UV maps associated with this particular model. Is there a way to convert image maps to UV, or to export textures as image maps and not UVs? cubic, planer, spherical, etc.???

I doubt it, since different apps use different methods for those mappings, and different coordinate systems.
If your object is mapped with simple planar, cylindrical, etc maps then it's shouldn't be hard to make UV maps and apply the images to them.

Will surface baker do this...?

If so can you explain?
