View Full Version : importing .obj file into separate layers?

Is there a way an imported .obj file automatically distributes the parts to separate layers?

I've tried to export models, which are created out of individual parts, from both Cinema4D and Hexagon, but Lightwave just imports everything on one layer.

Should be simple, but I can't find some kind of option to accomplish this...

I'm working on several architectural models and this is driving me crazy!

Thanks for any help given in advance.

If you are using a Windows OS, download AccuTrans 3D from

When the OBJ file is read each part will go to it's own layer. If necessary, the model can be scaled when it is saved to a LWO file.

I don't think it's possible from an obj file but some .lwo exporters do this. Wings used to have a .lwo plug which exported each object to a seperate layer. I'm not sure if it works with the latest version of Wings though :(

Many, MANY thanks, Micromouse! I did some tests and... It works like a charm! A real life saver.

For that price, it's a steal. You know, I now remember this program during my Amiga period  Didn't know it still existed!

Many thanks,
