Something like this?

This is already available in VT[4] by installing a custom skin.

See: http://www.newtek.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41093

If it doesn't work straight away with Speed Edit, at least it means it will be possible to configure Speed Edit this way via reskinning.

I agree that would be real real real nice to have.

Why would one want to take a step backward to trim monitors?

What's the point of trimming in a trimming window versus trimming on the timeline or in the storyboard? Isn't one step better than two?

If the issue is just seeing the end of one clip and the start of the next, the monitor should simply automatically split and show both when two clips are butted, as other NLEs do.

EXACTLY !!

great point !!

may be is simple to add a new feature in the VT monitor -> dual trim monitor

the monitor should simply automatically split and show both when two clips are butted, as other NLEs do.

FCP uses an overlay at the end of a clip and the beginnig of the next. Very helpful. Being able to see both would be great.

Yes, I agree completely, I've seen this in either EDIUS or Vegas as well.

Frankly, it's something we used to have with the Flyer, with the way it would show the end of the last clip on Preview and the start of the next clip on Program. Though like I said, there's no reason it can't be done as a split screen on one monitor, and that's better, in my opinion.

I agree about not wanting to waste scren realestate this way but the need
is still there for me. I have a real need to see the head and tail at the same time while triming. One of the things I have been missing in VT. Locking Clips is a much much bigger issue to me in day to day editing. Short cut keys for tool shed. I am going to place these in my signature soon.

But that's the thing Bob, doing the split on one screen doesn't waste real estate at all. Either EDIUS or Vegas currently does this.

As for the other stuff, there are plenty of things Newtek still needs to add to SpeedEDIT, but I'll be happy just to be able to bring HDV in and send it out for now...
