View Full Version : getting lights from autocad to LW

I have lights (point, spot, directional) are on a layer;
all of my models are on other layers;
I save the whole thing as .dwg;
AND I also export it as a .3ds;

I cannot open the .dwg in LW;

I import .3ds into Rhino ( great modeler );
but lights do not get imported;

any thoughts on how to get my lights from autocad to Lightwave?

I thought .3ds was raw geometry, with no lighting information. I tried exporting a single point light as a .3ds, and nothing is showing up in AccuTrans 3d.
I've always had trouble exporting data out of Autocad 06, and never had much luck with lights. Most of the time adding lights screwed up the file, and strange glitches popped up all over. Not to mention that when it did work, all the units would be off.

If someone has a detailed and accurate way of moving information between AutoCad (including lighting), some sort of tutorial would be awesome.

Lights can be saved to a 3DS file. So either AutoCAD is not writing the lights to the file or Rhino is not reading the lights.

Are you using AutoCAD 2007? I think 2007 is the first version that supports lights.

AccuTrans does not support anything new that has been added in AutoCAD 2007.

AccuTrans does not support lights and camera data for any file format.
