Hello,
I need to make a waving flag and am trying to do it with cloth. I set it all up with a point selection to hold the flag onto the flagpole. I cannot figure out how to make wind affect the flag. I tried making a null and turning that into a wind effector (dynamics tab)....but the cloth flag still just falls due to gravity.
Does anyone know the steps to get a wind effector to effect cloth?
Thanks,
Erik

you dont need null, just add wind from dynamics.
to see the deformation, for the flag (layer), in GENERAL tab, set SUBDIVISION ORDER to LAST.
also make sure that the gravity is not stronger then the wind it self
and ALWAYS use CALCULATE button from dynamics tab to make preview.

Ok,
I applied the wind effector and I am starting to get some effect (my gravity was too hard) but it is not giving me a nice ripple....the flag seems very stiff. Any ideas on that? I used the silk preset on the cloth, but it still seems very stiff. (the flag is made of a rectangle that was cut up and triangulated so has lots of polys.)
Thanks,
Erik

you will need 2 or more different winds, direction and another one.
try to animate (rotate) slightly the direction wind effector
and use subpatches... if need meore details increase render subpatch level
