View Full Version : lightning bolts

I have a string of two point polygons that I want to displace using a procedural to make a bolt of electricity. However, I want the ends to stay fixed becasue right now, they're being displaced as well. I'm having the electricity flow from a probe to another probe. How can I get the ends of the electric bolts to stay fixed to an area. I remember seeing a tutorial on this once and I know it's easy but I just can't remember how they did it. I seem to remember the two point polys being attached to two nulls that could be moved.

Put bones Just in the ends. Then you can steer 'em.:lwicon:

use distance to object gradients to control where the displacement happens.

Duh. Yeah, that's what that tutorial was suggesting. That's what I want, thank you. I do need to control the ends of the bolts.

Thanks Jeremy but I think the bones will give me the control I need.

no yeah. the bones are what i'd suggest as well. i thought you were asking about limiting the lightning displacement to areas other than the ends. my bad. :o

or spline-control to skip bones altogether:

Or do it the old fashioned way...roto in post. (i just had to mention this for some odd reason...)
