I asked this a week ago, but there's been no reply.

I want to select a number of polys on the z axis, and stretch them all relative to themselves, not to the entire selection.

In other words, when I stretch them "z", they will each get shorter "z", no tthe entire selection get shorter "z".

I remember a tool (or option) to do this, but it's not in the stretch tool...any ideas?

(the action would be much like beveling, but without creating new polys)

Help!

You could try the Point normal move, you'd have to move the points back into position, but it would scale them individually....

Don't think I've ever used that tool at all. I'm selecting 40 poly groups in a row though, so I don;t think that would be practical.

Modify/Translate/Segment Scale

Use the numeric panel, centered option.
You'll have to do it twice - scales one direction at a time.

This is a really cool feature, first time I've used it.
I think it'll be my new favorite, 'til 9 comes out.
Thanks for needing it.

That doesn't seem to work consistantly. Guess it's back to the drawing board.

Hmmm, I see what you mean. I tried many different models and got various wrong, non-useable results. Maybe try this...

Load your object in Layout
Add bones centered in the areas you want to scale
Scale the bones down
Save transformed object

If that doesn't do ya, there's the more tedious way of selecting and moving points in Modeler. (Actually it wouldn't be that bad.)

Select all the left-side points of each area you want to scale, move.
Then select only the right-most points, move them the same amount in opposite direction.
Do the same for each other axis, and you're done.

There's prolly many more ways to do this scale thing in Layout, so I'm going to go play a bit, see what I can find.

I'll just do them by hand...prolly quicker then trying 10 different methods.
