Unfortunately, and for the software developers out there, its also constantly changing (ie - here in the US, Indiana just signed some legislation to get a bunch of their counties to switch sides of the TZ line). Its apparently quite a hot topic, too.

*sigh* Why hasn't the world realized that the US controls EVERYTHING, including the date and time?

My guess is that you should probably take February 14th, 11:59pm US Pacific time, plug it in to your favorite world clock calculator, and see what really means for the rest of the world :)

Then again, a single date exists somewhere on the planet for 48 hours. This gives them a lot of flexability :)

Both the Vue 5 Infinite bundle and the LWCAD offer are good until LightWave v9 begins shipping. Once the open beta program starts today, and we've had some time to look at the initial results, we will make an announcement as to when that will be.

Hey that means even Newtek thinks, we will get the beta today!

Newtek can't ever claim there is no enthusiasm in its user community.

If things go well, it'll be 9.0 beta today, 9.0 release in say, April-early May, and something we can hand out as demos to people interested in the software by June?

One must have dreams to have goals. And one must have goals to be successful :)

I can see them now, finger poised over the "upload" button whilst smirking over our eagerness.

Ya know, I'd wager, it'll be available for download in just over an hour.. Why?

By the gods, friends.

I know you're excited, but there are more important tasks today.... Either work on your projects that pay or pay attention to your loved ones. If NewTek gives a date, they (in my experience) keep the date. "Sometime soon" is always a moving target, but the few times they give a Month and Date, something's up.

It'll be out, just be patient :)

Actually, this thread uses a new feature in LW's SDK called "Automatic Post Generation via an Exponential Super-scalar Node Based Mechanism©".

Only question is, will it be available in FPrime?

If there's any thing that shows off the love for Lightwave and its users this thread would be it.

Though it shows more impatience than love at the moment:)

Christ on a bike, this is getting to be like the fastest growng thread anywhere, ever!!!

Obviously you've not seen forum threads after certain webcomics update with a particularly important/striking/funny/dramatic new installment...

4 pages in 15 minutes? Yup... :p

[edit] On second thought, the pace is picking up around here!

Anyone else hoping that they have secretly revamped the interface so that its still laid out the same but skinnable so that we can have competitions to see who has the coolest LW screen. Lets face it...we do spend a LOT of time staring at LW!

The first thing I want to see is the increase in rendering speed. After that I intend to have a look at nodal surfacing.

I'm taking a heart I previously modeled, slapping some SSS and nice lighting on it, and making a Valentine's image for NewTek. :D

Oooh, I don't have enough computers to try APS and displacements, and Nodal, and the new renderer, all at once...

I'm bored waiting like a sad git, so I intend to put forth a brief rant on the topic of these kinds of threads. Please skip it if you are short on time, do not enjoy rants or intend to set fire to my face. Please do read it if you are considering posting "Hey, it's here! LOLZOR! Not really!"

RANT BEGINS

You know, any thread on any forum in the world that contains posters eagerly awaiting a particular download will always have the comedy geniuses going

"IT'S HERE!

No, wait, I'm just a hilarious japester."

Just in case those guys didn't realise, it's been done ten million times before on ten million other forums. I'm all for a good joke, but that's the operative word, isn't it? Good. Try and think of a gag that isn't the easiest and most obvious in the world.

RANT ENDS

This has been a public service announcement on behalf of DiscoCorp.

Probably the node-based texturing. After I've compared rendering speeds with 8.5, natch! :D

look at this.

As of 1900 CET on the 14th February the open beta has not yet started in North America, and due to the time difference between here and San Antonio, NewTek's home, we could only start it in the middle of the night here in Europe.

Therefore we advise you to go and enjoy St. Valentines' Day with your nearest and dearest and we will start the open beta here in Europe tomorrow afternoon... have fun
