Seagate makes the most reliable external hard drives. There hard drives can handle a force of 300G's if you accidentally drop them. Very easy install/setup(just plug in power and usb/firewire).My tech guy has seen problems with WesternDigital, Lacie, and Maxtor. Best Buy and Circuit City have them on sale frequently, I bought my 200gig 6 months ago for less than $200 with mail in rebate.
Good Luck

I have used a USB 2.0 external hard drive. Just make sure the hard drive is formatted for NTFS and not Fat32. Fat32 has a 2 gig file size limit. NTFS has an unlimited file size. I hope this helps!
